Your knowledge. Your device.
Better answers.

MyGPT is a privacy-first, open-source Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) platform with real-time confidence metrics and in-document source highlighting. Ask questions across your research papers, clinical protocols, and document collections—with verifiable citations and zero third-party API costs, running entirely on your personal device or institutional infrastructure.

Why Choose MyGPT?

A modular RAG stack designed for enterprise, research, and personal use, prioritizing security and factual accuracy.

Privacy-first by design

Run MyGPT on your personal device or private infrastructure so your library and conversations stay under your control.

Answers with evidence

Retrieved context, source highlighting, and confidence metrics help you inspect where an answer comes from and decide when to verify it.

Confidence Metrics

MyGPT calculates real-time metrics for every query: Question Relevance Score (QRS), Answer Relevance Score (ARS), and Hallucination Index (HI).

Bring your own models

Use Ollama to run supported open models locally. Choose the model that fits your hardware, quality needs, and privacy requirements.

Native Desktop App (Preview)

★ Recommended Primary Method Docker & Browser UI

Web Application Deployment (macOS / Windows / Linux)

The official and recommended way to install and run MyGPT on your personal computer or workstation. Runs securely with Docker Desktop and Ollama, and opens directly in your browser at http://localhost:3000 without desktop signing restrictions.

💡
Looking for the standalone desktop build?

Check the Desktop App (Preview) tab. Note that macOS developer signing is in progress, so the web application below is the recommended choice.

Setup on macOS (Apple Silicon M-Series or Intel)

Requires at least 8 CPUs, 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended for faster responses), and 10 GB disk space. Ensure Homebrew, Git, Docker Desktop, and Ollama are installed.

1. Pull local models via Ollama

ollama pull llama3
ollama pull nomic-embed-text

2. Clone the public GitHub repository

git clone https://github.com/stjude/MyGPT.git
cd MyGPT

3. Initialize environment variables

cp .env_backend.example .env_backend
cp .env_frontend.example .env_frontend

These files configure your local container parameters securely without committing secrets.

4. Launch MyGPT containers

cd installation/macOS
bash run_docker.sh

Alternatively, launch directly with Docker Compose from the root folder: docker compose up -d. Once started, open http://localhost:3000 in your browser.

💡
Looking for a standalone desktop installer?

See the Desktop App (Preview) tab for Windows setup and portable executables.

Setup on Windows 10 / 11 (via Docker Desktop)

Ensure Docker Desktop (with WSL 2 backend) and Git are installed on your Windows PC.

1. Pull models with Ollama

ollama pull llama3
ollama pull nomic-embed-text

2. Clone repository and setup environment

git clone https://github.com/stjude/MyGPT.git
cd MyGPT
copy .env_backend.example .env_backend
copy .env_frontend.example .env_frontend

3. Execute Windows setup script

cd installation\windows
run_docker.bat

Access the UI at http://localhost:3000.

💡
Looking for a standalone desktop build?

See the Desktop App (Preview) tab for Linux AppImage and Debian packages.

Setup on Linux (Ubuntu / Debian / RedHat)

Requires at least 8 CPUs, 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended), and 10 GB disk space. Compatible with both CPU and NVIDIA GPU acceleration.

1. Start Ollama service & pull models

sudo systemctl start ollama
ollama pull llama3
ollama pull nomic-embed-text

2. Clone repository & configure environment

git clone https://github.com/stjude/MyGPT.git
cd MyGPT
cp .env_backend.example .env_backend
cp .env_frontend.example .env_frontend

3. Run MyGPT containers

cd installation/linux
sudo sh run_docker.sh

For GPU systems with CUDA: docker compose -f docker-compose-gpu.yml up -d

Release v1.0.3 Secondary Option • Preview

Desktop Application (Work in Progress)

Pre-packaged desktop builds for macOS, Windows, and Linux. Standalone desktop apps do not require Node.js, npm, or cloning the Git repository. For local use, simply have Docker Desktop and Ollama running in the background; or connect seamlessly to a remote GPU server or cloud deployment without running local Docker containers.

Important Notice • macOS Developer Warning The Web Application is the Recommended Way to Use MyGPT

Desktop distribution is currently a work in progress. Current macOS downloads are not yet Apple Developer ID signed and notarized, so macOS Gatekeeper may display an “unidentified developer” or “Apple cannot check it for malicious software” warning and block the app from opening. Company-managed Macs may prohibit manual security overrides entirely.

We are actively working with St. Jude’s Apple support team toward signed and notarized releases. To avoid desktop installation and trust restrictions, please use the Web Application (Docker) as the primary installation method.

macOS

macOS 12+ Monterey, Ventura, Sonoma, Sequoia
Gatekeeper warning: Apple Developer ID signing & notarization in progress

Windows

Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit)

Linux

Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora, Arch & others

How to Run the Desktop App

Mode A • Default

Local Services (100% Offline)

Run everything locally on your machine for guaranteed data privacy.

  1. Start Docker Desktop in the background (runs PostgreSQL, Django, and Grobid).
  2. Install Ollama and pull required models:
    ollama pull llama3.2
    ollama pull nomic-embed-text
  3. Open MyGPT. It will detect Docker, start containers automatically, and connect to Ollama on http://localhost:11434.
Mode B • Cloud / Remote

Remote GPU Server (Zero Local Docker)

Connect your desktop app to a shared GPU workstation, institutional HPC cluster, or Azure deployment.

  1. Open MyGPT Desktop (no local Docker or Ollama required).
  2. Go to Settings > Developer / API > Runtime services.
  3. Set your remote Django URL (e.g. https://mygpt.institution.edu:8000) and remote Ollama URL.
  4. The desktop app connects securely with live connection status indicators in the footer!

Packaging & Development from Source

If you are modifying the desktop app or building custom signed installers for your institution:

cd electron
npm install
npm run dev # Launch desktop app with hot reloading
npm run dist # Build installers for current operating system

See the complete build and configuration documentation in electron/README.md.
